Woman's half-naked corpse found in a sugarcane field in Uttar Pradesh

An unidentified woman's half-naked body was found in a sugarcane field at Rampur Kheri village in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh police said on Saturday.

Police suspect that the woman, appearing to be in her late 20s, was raped before being strangled to death. The body, which was was found in the field on Friday by a farmer, has been sent for postmortem. "The autopsy report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death but it appears that the woman was first raped and then strangled," police said.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against unidentified persons.
