Rifkind: There will be 'sensible compromise' over EU bill

The former foreign secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind has told the Today programme that there will be a "sensible compromise" over what he called the "ridiculous" £1.7bn bill from the European Union to the UK.

Lord Liddle, a former special adviser on European affairs to the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, said that the circumstances of the EU demand is "more of a cock-up than a conspiracy".

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Saturday 25 October.
