Forget the political warfare of the Seven Kingdoms: “Game of Thrones” actor Charles Dance will soon be staging an alien invasion, as Variety has confirmed he will be one of the leads in Syfy’s “Childhood’s End.”

The six-hour miniseries, which is an adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s classic novel “Childhood’s End,” focuses on what happens after the alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious Overlords. While their arrival is seen as a peaceful one, it also begins decades of an apparent utopia under indirect alien rule — at the cost of human identity and culture. As first reported by Entertainment Weekly, Dance will play Karellen, the Overlords’ ambassador.

The project, which is being adapted by Matthew Graham (BBC’s “Life on Mars”) and directed by Nick Hurran (“Sherlock: His Last Vow”), will begin filming next month in Australia and will premiere on Syfy next year. It is exec produced by Akiva Goldsman and Mike De Luca in association with Universal Cable Productions.

Dance is repped by the U.K.’s Tavistock Wood Management.
