Bengaluru: It is a dogfight over dogs! Preeti Veenam, in her early thirties, and a member of the Facebook page Barking Dogs Productions, a theatre and play artistes group, is in trouble, quite ironically, over objecting to her neighbour Rachana Ramdin, a French Consultant, keeping four dogs as pets.
Preeti has written objectionable comments on pieces of paper and pasted them on Rachana’s postbox on the gate, giving vent to her annoyance over the four barking dogs next door.
Preeti wrote: “Happy Diwali to your dogs, hope the sounds get louder. May the crackers not stop. Its time for the dogs to pay back they must suffer noise too, its only fair. We love loud fireworks, hope the dogs do too. May the noise terrorise them the way their barks do.”
Rachana, who owns three German Shepherds and one Golden Retriever, moved into her HRBR Layout residence about a year ago. “Since then, I have been treated as an indifferent neighbour,” says Rachana.
“My immediate neighbour Preeti took pains to collect signatures from the residents of the houses nearby on a petition stating that my pets were a nuisance in the neighbourhood as they bark loudly,” she said.
“Preeti kept threatening me that either I should leave or I have to get rid of my dogs. The cold war has been growing since then. I am now worried that she might go to the extent of poisoning my dogs,” Rachana told Deccan Chronicle.
Rachana approached the Banaswadi police, who took up a noncognisable complaint against Preeti and will summon her for an inquiry.
Rachana said that her dogs bark when they see strays outside the gate. Since it is Deepavali time, they are scared of crackers and howl throughout the night.
“My neighbour feels that if a dog barks anywhere in the vicinity, it has to be my dogs. If somebody is bursting crackers, my dogs bark. I don’t have any control over it.
Educated people would understand this,” Rachana said. Barking dogs seldom bite, but my neighbour keeps on biting me on this, she said.
