Schoolgirl ‘gangraped’ in Deganga
KOLKATA: A Class-XI girl was allegedly dragged out of her home and gangraped at Deganga in North 24 Parganas while she was lighting candles on Thursday night.
Unable to bear the torture, the survivor fell unconscious. She was found lying in a deserted field adjacent to her house till villagers rescued her.
She had to be hospitalized immediately. Though a police complaint was lodged, no arrests have been made as yet in this connection.
A source in the police said two persons were detained for interrogation.

Around 7.30pm on Thursday, four youths pounced on the girl and dragged her to a bush when she was lighting candles on Diwali.
“They pounced on me from behind. They also threw something on my eyes, after which I could not see anything. They gagged and dragged me out to a bush to torture me,” the victim wrote in her complaint.
The victim’s family members raised an alarm while she was found missing.
Later, the neighbours and other villagers found her lying in an unconscious state in a bush close to her house. She was rushed to Barasat Hospital, from where she was discharged after primary treatment.

On Friday, while newspersons visited the girl’s house, she was found to be in trauma. When asked about the incident, she could not even talk properly.
“They tortured me brutally and I am still in pain,” she said.
“We suspect the culprits were local residents. We also think that the assailants were known to her. They should be given exemplary punishment,” said a neighbour of the survivor.
A senior district police officer said that a complaint had been received and the girl was sent for medical tests.
