Mayor readies agenda for meet with Khattar
GURGAON: Having met him twice during the BJP campaign for Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, Gurgaon mayor Vimal Yadav sounded confident that new Haryana CM-elect Manohar Lal Khattar will ensure that the Millennium City gets the attention that is due from the state government. He accused the previous Congress-led government in the state, which he was a part of till the LS elections, of ignoring the city and its needs.
He, along with several other councilors, will be attending the chief minister's swearing in ceremony on Sunday in Panchkula. "We all will be attending the ceremony since for the first time the CM is from our party. While meeting him personally that day might not be possible, I plan to meet Khattar soon after with my team," said Yadav.
"I am preparing a list of issues that need his attention and will meet senior MCG officials on Monday to chart out other pressing issues. I met Khattar during the Lok Sabha campaign in Varanasi, and he came across as an honest person. The fact that he is considered close to the PM should make our job easier," he added.
With a BJP government in Chandigarh, finding swift redress to city's problems may become possible. "I am sure Gurgaon ranks first on new CM's priorities, since it generates maximum revenue in the state," he said.
Among issues that Yadav intends to take up with the new CM include having permanent staff in MCG and ensuring MCG commissioners are not transferred every six months. He said the main reason behind the slow pace of development work was the lack of manpower. He said he will also seek more powers to be granted to the mayor's office.
