At least 45 jhuggis were gutted in a fire on Friday morning in Northeast Delhi’s Shastri Park area. Police said no casualty was reported. Though the cause of the fire has not been established, police and fire officials suspect that a cracker might have set off a pile of wood and plastic scrap in the area.

“We received a call at 10.20 am, saying a fire had spread to slum clusters near the Buland Masjid in Shastri Park. We dispatched 12 fire tenders to the spot and the fire was doused by 11.30 am. No one was injured,” an official at the fire control room said.

No FIR has been registered so far, police said.

Sajjad, a 50-year-old jhuggi resident, said, “The fire spread mainly because of scrap and goods stored in jhuggis. My eggs store and jhuggi were gutted.”
