BANGALORE: State home minister KJ George on Friday told Bangalore living North Eastern residents to form local committees and approach jurisdictional police inspector when situation arises. Following an attack on a North Eastern recently, George called for a meeting attended by senior police officials including DG-IGPLalrokhumaPachau, city police commissioner MN Reddy and Joint commissioner of police (Crime) HemanthNimbalkar.
Many North Eastern residents participated in the interaction and gave suggestions to police and home minister himself on the security measures that can be adopted while guarding them.
Addressing media after the interaction, George said that he has directed the North Eastern people to form local committees. “The local committee should have all details and contact numbers. Each member in the committee should be available to each other,” he said.
However, George warned of strict legal action against those who misuse the community or indulge in illegal activity. “Government shall protest law abiding”” citizens. We will not tolerate illegal activities and law of the land is equal to all,” he said.
Advisor to Central Crime Branch (CCB) VS D’souza told TOI that he has been appointed as nodal officer for North Eastern issues. “In emergencies, they can call me 9480801020. I shall assist them on the situation,”
Teach police Hindi
During the interaction, many participants told home minister that Bangalore police should be taught Hindi language. A senior police officer intervened and said that they shall teach their police minimum Hindi while the North Eastern should also learn basic Kannada.
