ORANGE Emus utility back Lachie Harris said he was never going to pass up the chance to represent the Central West Invitational side in today’s HeartKids Cup at Endeavour Oval.

“I saw the call out for players last week and stuck my hand up,” Harris said, with his invitational side to take on Deadwood Rugby Club.
“I played under (Central West Invitational coaches) Steve (Hamson) and Mick (Gray) in the (NSW Country Championship winning) Central West under 20s side earlier this year, and I thought I’d take the chance to learn from them again.
“Plus, it’s raising money for a very good cause, which is the main goal of the day.”
Harris acted as somewhat of a Mr. Fix-it for Orange Emus throughout the greens’ highly successful 2014 Blowes Clothing Cup campaign, playing in the top grade sporadically on the wing, at fullback and even in the centres.
“I’d love to just get some good game time to try and impress,” Harris said.
“It’s a good avenue to work towards some goals. I’d love to get a full-time spot in ones at Emus next year, and this is a handy side to play in.
“They’ve picked some more senior Central West representatives, and then they’ve picked a few of the 20s guys but also some other players who were interested.
“It’s a good mix I think, and I’d say people can expect some pretty exciting rugby, especially against Deadwood.”
The Deadwood club boasts a formidable record of 72 wins and just 13 losses, and won the 2013 clash 60-19.
“They’ll be strong, I’ve heard they’re very big, and very athletic,” Harris said.
“It’ll be a really good test for our guys to see how we shape up against that sort of standard.”
The game kicks off at 3.30pm, and follows the HeartKids Cup junior rugby clinic run by the Deadwood Rugby Club players, which costs $45 and starts at 10am.
