Former Warrior, Farrington HS Coach Ellis Selected As Captain

HONOLULU – Former Rainbow Warrior Agenhart Ellis Jr., the longtime athletics director and coach at Farrington High School, will serve as the University of Hawai'i's honorary captain for Saturday's Mountain West contest against Nevada.
 
Kick-off is 6:00 p.m. at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium. Ellis Jr., will accompany UH's game captains at midfield for the pre-game coin toss.
 
A graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Ellis Jr., was an Interscholastic League of Honolulu all-star in 1960 and '61. He went on to the University of Kansas on a football scholarship for one year before returning home to care for his ailing father. He then played three seasons as a tackle for the Rainbow Warriors and was selected to the 1967 Hula Bowl.
 
The following year, he began a 30-plus year career at Farrington High School in Honolulu, where he served as defensive coordinator and athletics director.
 
His father, Agenhart Ellis Sr., starred for Kamehameha in the 1930s and his son, Agenhart III, was an all-star at Kamehameha, who followed in his father's footsteps to play for the Rainbow Warriors. His daughter Auli'I, was a three-sport athlete at Kamehameha and played volleyball at Santa Clara.

Previous honorary captains this season include Rick Blangiardi (Washington), Rockne Freitas (Oregon State), Governor Neil Abercrombie (Northern Iowa), and Michael Carter (Wyoming).
