Dhoni likely for Ranchi game; Pataudi lecture on Nov 12
The postponed Pataudi Lecture will now take place on November 12 in Kolkata. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled the annual event, organised in the memory of former India captain, the late MAK Pataudi, on the sidelines of the fourth one-day international between India and Sri Lanka. As already decided, VVS Laxman will deliver the lecture.

Originally, the event was to be held on October 19 in Kolkata but it had to be postponed because of the West Indies team’s sudden pullout from the tour. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Eden Gardens and the BCCI has joined the celebrations by awarding the prestigious event to the iconic ground.

Meanwhile, the schedule for the ODI series against Sri Lanka may allow Ranchi to see MS Dhoni in action. It is understood that the BCCI is planning to hold the last match in the India skipper’s home town, and the chances are that Dhoni could be drafted into the squad for the last two games. He has been rested for the first three ODIs.

“There is no discussion yet on the matter. We will see how the first three games pan out. There was a mutual consensus that the skipper is needed to be rested. We will see how if he can be drafted for the Ranchi game,” said a BCCI official in the know.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has finalised the schedule for the five ODIs. Hyderabad is slated to host the second match on November 6, followed by Ahmedabad on November 9. The match at the Eden Gardens will be on November 13 and the last game in Ranchi on November 16. As has been announced, Cuttack will host the first game on November 2.

The schedule, it is understood, had to be drawn keeping in mind the movement of the television kit which cannot be flown and has to be carried by road. That is the reason the team is made to crisscross the country for each match. There are two TV production kits which go through a different route rather than move along with the teams.

SPONSORS WARY OF WINDIES

Barbados The West Indies Cricket Board, reeling from the fallout from the team’s withdrawal from the tour of India, is facing fresh pressure from its worried broadcast partners. Oliver McIntosh, chief executive officer of Digicel Sportsmax, says he is worried about the West Indies tour of South Africa and says the WICB needs to undergo serious changes,” he told Reuters in an interview.
