Meet Aditi Sajwan and Shafaq Naaz, TV’s new Koel and Mayuri
A reshuffle in the cast of TV show Chidiya Ghar has Aditi Sajwan and Shafaq Naaz replacing Shilpa Shinde and Debina Bonnerjee respectively to play Koel and Mayuri. It is the story of a fun-loving family, where each member displays a quirky trait.
Says Aditi, the new Koel, “There is a great scope for performance in playing Koel — I get to sing, dance, cry, laugh and do comedy on the same show, which also makes it quite challenging.
The USP of the show is its unique characters, who are all inspired by animals and reflect those traits. It is funny, yet endearing because it exhorts lessons of life and family values in a comic way.” Shafaq seconds Aditi, adding, “Comedy and emotions are woven into the show beautifully.”

Both the actresses fit the bill perfectly as they are trained in music and dance. Aditi, who has taken training in elementary singing, is not supposed to sing correctly on the show. She elaborates, “Koel believes that she's a good singer, so I've to always be soft and melodious in my dialogue delivery. The biggest task is to mouth lyrics as dialogues rather than sing it. Before I can converse in a normal way, lyrics that express my feelings, come out of my mouth. It’s a very unusual way of expressing, considering I don’t sing nor does the dialogue have any melody in it."
On the other hand, Shafaq has trained under a Bollywood choreographer and also taught dance. “I have learnt dancing for almost a year. I love to dance and this character allows me to enjoy my passion. The character always breaks into an impromptu jig.” Chidiya Ghar airs Monday to Friday at 9 pm on SAB TV.
