The richest person in each state

Being a billionaire in New York or California just makes you part of the crowd. But in Utah, New Mexico, Maine or Delaware, $1 billion would make you the richest person in your state.

A new analysis from Wealth-X ranks the richest people in each of the 50 states. Among the takeaways: Of the 50 individuals, 41 are billionaires and their combined wealth of $594.1 billion accounts for 26 percent of the total billionaire wealth in America.

Fully 35 of the 50 individuals on the list are entrepreneurs who made their own fortunes.

There are six women on the list, with Christy Walton of Arkansas being the richest.

And there are nine states where the richest person is not a billionaire: Utah, New Mexico, Mississippi, Maine, Delaware, Hawaii, South Dakota, Alaska and Wyoming.
