Beatport Scoops Up Social Sharing App Listn

Social music app Listn will shut down at the end of the month and be absorbed by SFX Entertainment's Beatport, the startup's founder and CEO announced this week.

Social music app Listn will shut down at the end of the month and be absorbed by SFX Entertainment’s Beatport, the startup’s founder and CEO announced this week. Details of the deal were not disclosed.

“When we first started Listn we set out to change and improve the way the world shares and communicates via the music they love,” said Listn chief Mike Schmidt. “Now, over a year later we’re proud to be joining a company that shares that mission!”

Listn lets you combine music libraries and explore, share and listen to your friends’ music, regardless of whether they’re on Spotify, Rdio, YouTube or other streaming services.

According to Schmidt, the app, which has already been removed from iTunes, will be shut down on Oct. 30. The 400,000-or-so users who already have it can continue to share away until the end of the month, when it will presumably stop working.

The Listn concept will be an integral part of Beatport’s goal to “round out the end-to-end experience, from live events to digital music,” said Schmidt, who promised more updates in the coming months.

Requests for comment from SFX and Listn were not immediately returned.
