Seiko Epson's profit lifted by emerging-market demand

TOKYO -- Seiko Epson is seen logging roughly 75 billion yen ($693 million) in operating profit for the six months ended in September, more than double its year-ago tally and about 6 billion yen higher than projected.

Ink-jet printer models sold exclusively in emerging markets fared well in Southeast Asia and elsewhere. In Japan, the U.S. and Europe, ink cartridges enjoyed strong demand. Sales are estimated at just over 510 billion yen, up 10% or so and beating the target of 503 billion yen.
