Mercedes-Benz G-Class with V8 Diesel Power Tuned by German Special Customs

With all the hyper around the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG, people in the aftermarket world tend to forget the Gelandewagen range also includes diesel models and since this is an offroader, the oil-burning part is rather important. Alas, the current line-up only offers a V6 diesel (G350 BlueTEC), which doesn’t sound all that cool in this flashy realm. Thus, when German Special Customs were planning their next project, they turned to an older model, in search for the V8 aura.

We are talking about a G400 CDI, which packs V8 diesel power. Yes, we know, the output of the 4-liter V8 is almost identical to that of the current V6, but we’ve already established this story is about the cool stuff, or, better said, the swag.

German Special Customs fitted the G400 CDI with one of its body kits, which resembles the AMG treatment, albeit using a a flashier approach. For instance, while the front headlight surrounds already feature the OEM-like LED daytime running lights, another set of DRLs is found in what can only be described as a lip spoiler for this... offroader.

Moving to the sides of the car, the elements that draw attention are the side-mounted exhaust tips, as well as the carbon look mirror caps. The same finish was chose for the spare wheel cover, while the rear bumper brings a set of unnecessary grilles.

As for the wheels, the tuning house installed a set of 22-inch rollers, which feature a seven-spoke design and are wrapped in massive 305/40 R22 rubber all-round.

Why the wheels ruin the car

While the appearance of the body kit is a subjective matter, the choice of wheels is not. When Mercedes only goes up to 20 inches (G63 AMG included), installing larger rims will only ruin the ride. Admittedly, these sidewalls are larger than what we’ve seen on many other tuning projects.
