Mr. Jacques Gregoire reports
CLOSURE OF TRANSCONTINENTAL CONCORD AND TRANSCONTINENTAL EDMONTON PRINTING PLANTS
Transcontinental Inc. will be closing its Transcontinental Concord printing plant at 89 Connie Crescent in Concord, Ont., and its Transcontinental Edmonton printing plant at 18130 114th Ave. in Edmonton, Alta., at the end of December, 2014.
"We are always looking at possible solutions to maximize our print platform," said Jacques Gregoire, president of the printing division of Transcontinental. "Our recent analyses have led us to close the Concord and Edmonton facilities in order to consolidate our production in state-of-the-art plants which will increase our efficiency and utilization rate. In light of the current market environment, we are pursuing our review and are examining various options to continue responding appropriately to demand while remaining cost-effective for our customers."
Unfortunately, this reorganization will result in a total of 120 layoffs. Transcontinental thanks these employees for their dedicated contribution to the company and will ensure that they are accompanied in their transition to other employment.
