Novak Djokovic and wife Jelena are celebrating the birth of their first child - son Stefan was born in Nice, France on Wednesday October 22.

"Stefan, our baby angel was born!" the world No.1 posted on Twitter. "I'm so proud of my beautiful wife Jelena! Thank you so much for your love and support. We love you all!!!"

The child was born a short distance from the couple's home in Monaco. Djokovic said the "birth passed in the best way, and the baby and the mother are feeling fine" on his official website.

Djokovic married his high-school sweetheart in July, just four days after winning his second Wimbledon title with victory over Roger Federer in the final.

The Serbian confirmed that he plans to return to action at next week's Paris Masters, then on to London for the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals - but not before spending "several days with the baby and wife Jelena."

Djokovic faces a challenge from Federer for the year-end No.1 ranking. He is now one of three members of the world's top five to enter fatherhood, alongside Federer - a father of four - and Stan Wawrinka, who has a daughter.
