DAVV asks for Rs 22 crore more from MHRD

After seeking huge funds from state government and University Grants Commission (UGC) to upgrade university into a model and international institution, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) has sought Rs 22 crore more from ministry of human resources and development (MHRD) under Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).

INDORE: After seeking huge funds from state government and University Grants Commission (UGC) to upgrade university into a model and international institution, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) has sought Rs 22 crore more from ministry of human resources and development (MHRD) under Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). Funds will be used to construct a 300-bed hostel, toilets, upgrade/renovate academic and administrative buildings, improve faculty, develop campus and enhance networking.

RUSA is a Centre-sponsored scheme launched in 2013 with an aim to provide funds to eligible state higher educational institutions to improve their infrastructure and standard.
DAVV has submitted its requirement of funds to state’s department of higher education, which would club proposals of all state universities and forward the same to MHRD. Funding to states would be made on basis of critical appraisal of State Higher Education Plans, which would describe each state’s strategy to address issues of equity, access and excellence in higher education.
Dean of College Development Council, DAVV, Sumant Katiyal said that they had sought a total of Rs 21.75 crore funds under six heads, including infrastructure grants to University; research, innovation and quality improvement; equity initiatives; faculty recruitment support; faculty Improvement and vocationalization of higher education.
Of total Rs 21.75 crore sought, Rs 20.21 crore alone is for infrastructure development and renovation. Around Rs 5 crore has been sought for construction of a boys hostel at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Rs 2.10 crore for construction of new toilets, Rs 3.9 crore for upgradation/renovation of academic buildings, Rs 1 crore each for upgradation/renovation of administrative buildings and hostels, Rs 50 lakh for beautification of campus and Rs 60 for upgradation/renovation of library. Besides, amounts have been sought for faculty improvement, vocationalization of higher education, networking equipment and softwares.
