Manchester United summer signing Angel Di Maria has been nominated alongside Barcelona star Neymar and Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca for Best American Player in the La Liga award ceremony celebrating players' achievements last season.

The Argentinian international played a crucial role at Real Madrid during last season in their run to both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League victories before completing his summer record £59.7m move to Old Trafford.

Di Maria scored four goals and provided 18 assists for Real Madrid in 38 domestic league games, while he netted another three goals and grabbed six assist in 11 Champions League appearances.

Meanwhile, Brazilian international Neymar scored nine goals for Barcelona in his debut campaign in La Liga, while Colombia's Bacca, who was linked with Arsenal during the summer, netted 14.

La Liga has recognised the merits of the three South American stars by nominating all of them for the La Liga awards at a ceremony that will take place on 27 October.

"Carlos Bacca, Sevilla FC's striker, Angel Di María, the ex-Real Madrid CF player, and Neymar Jr, who joined FC Barcelona last season are in the battle for the Best American Player in the 2013-14 Liga BBVA on 27 October at the 2014 LFP Awards Ceremony," La Liga confirm in its official website.

While speaking about di Maria, La Liga said: "His stats over four seasons with Real Madrid were so spectacular that the Premier League came knocking."

"Di María left 36 goals in his wake with the Whites and, even more impressively, 87 assists in the four years he spent at the Santiago Bernabéu. Electricity, power, movement and pace are the Argentinian's trump cards."

Di Maria joins the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea trio Diego Costa, Thibaut Courtois and Filipe Luis who are also up for different awards in the ceremony in Madrid next week.
