ISLAMABAD: Welcoming the decision of Dr Tahirul Qadri to call off the sit-in of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) after 69 days, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah on Thursday requested Imran Khan to return to the National Assembly to shed light on his concerns and other issues.

“I welcome the decision of PAT chief Dr Qadri who announced to call off his sit-in two days ago and I also request the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief to call off his ongoing sit-in at D-Chowk,” the opposition leader said during today's session of the National Assembly.

Shah said Parliament was the right place to highlight, discuss and resolve all issues and problems in a democratic country.

“Parliament is the strongest forum to highlight issues...it is only Parliament which can address the concerns and resolve the problems confronting the country,” he added.

“I request the PTI leadership to return to Parliament to highlight and resolve all issues by calling off the sit-in,” the veteran PPP leader said.

“In the past, the government did not bother with the PTI's demand to recount votes in four constituencies and that is why it is still facing the challenge of the sit-ins,” he added.

“We cannot reject the demand of the PTI regarding rigging allegations and recounting in four constituencies,” the opposition leader said.

Shah also claimed that the Indian government was involved in the violation of ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) and added that it (India) was also involved in the insurgency in Balochistan.

He demanded of the government to respond to India through diplomatic channels.

The National Assembly on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the Indian armed forces’ 'unprovoked and indiscriminate shelling along the LoC and working boundary’.

The resolution was moved by Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz. Wrapping up the debate on the LoC situation, Aziz said Pakistan was using all diplomatic fora to expose Indian aggression.

The resolution regretted the loss of 14 lives in Indian shelling and cross border firing.

It also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and with the individuals who have sustained injuries during the exchange of fire between Pakistan and India. The resolution moreover requested the United Nations to take notice of the situation.

The House shall remain adjourned on Friday for the Diwali festival being celebrated by the Hindu community.
