Men are usually conservative wearers of gold jewellery, sticking to understated rings and watches, but this Diwali there appear to be some changes in the age-old trend. The suave man of today, say leading jewellers, is more open to new designs. Suraj Popley, MD, Popley Eternal says, "Modern men appreciate the aesthetics of jewellery. They are into neckpieces, ear studs, belts, cuffl inks and even studded turbans," he says.

Tarang Arora, CEO and Creative Director, Amrapali, says that one of the key trends to emerge this season has been that of royalty-era jewellery. "Fine jewellery options inspired from the Maharaja era such as jewelled buttons, cuff links, turban pins, kalgi/sarpech and even brooches are all popular," he reveals. Some male customers are also buying jewellery for themselves and hoping they can double up as investments, reveals Mahesh Jagwani, MD, Mahesh Notandass Fine Jewellery.

Overall, the market has evolved to suit their more refi ned tastes. As Chandresh Zaveri of Zaveri & Co says, "Men today are on the lookout for classy yet stylish designs that will add an edge to their look. And, they strongly connect with gold and diamond jewellery."
