Paul FLYNN has moved himself into illustrious company with a fourth successive All Star award.

The Dublin forward joined only three other footballers by claiming a four-in-a-row.

Only Kerry legends Jack O'Shea, Pat Spillane and Paidi O Se have enjoyed a similar unbroken sequence in the past.

All-Ireland champions Kerry dominated the team with five awards but only players from the provincial champions and All-Ireland semi-finalists have been honoured, the second time in three years that this has happened.

Kieran Donaghy has been included despite only starting two championship games all season and missing the entire league campaign while long-serving defender Aidan O'Mahony has been overlooked as Peter Crowley wins his first award.

It is Donaghy's third All Star at the end of a season which he thought at one stage would be his last.

All-Ireland finalists Donegal take four awards, while Cillian O'Connor and Diarmuid Connolly are among the first-time winners on this year's football team.

Meanwhile, former Waterford hurling captain Stephen Molumphy has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling after nine years. Molumphy follows Seamus Prendergast and Shane Walsh who confirmed their retirements last week.
