JAISALMER: A few people from Punjab have purchased large chunks of land just 500-600 metres away from Chandhan firing range of Indian air force in Jaisalmer district, where supersonic missile Brahmos, along with other ammunition trials by DRDO’s have taken place. This has worried the air force and other security and intelligence agencies. Now, these security and intelligence agencies are investigating as why people of Punjab are purchasing land near this sensitive firing range, which is very important from country’s security point of view.

As per information, on August 29, 2014, a resident of Jaipur sold 100 bighas and 3 Biswa land for Rs 25 lakh in Chandhan area under khasra 129/1434 to Chandigarh resident Harminder Singh, s/o Kartar Singh. On August 29, this land was registered at Jaisalmer sub registrar’s office. To get the land registered, Harminder and Kartar had given power of attorney to Fazilka resident Prabhjot Singh. Similarly, on August 21, 36 bighas of land from the same khasra 129 was registered at sub registrar’s office Jaisalmer for Rs 9 lakh. Jaipur resident Anita Singh had sold this land to Nastar Singh, s/o Hakam Singh and for getting the land registered, Prabhjot was given the power of attorney.
Prior to this, around four years ago, just 500-600 metres away from Chandhan field firing range, Spice Solar Technolez Pvt Ltd, Noida had purchased 600 bighas of land from many famers of Chandhan and got it registered and later air force and district administration banned any kind of construction on this land.
What is intriguing is why people are purchasing such huge lands near the air force’s field firing range in Chandhan. It is to be mentioned that notorious terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa’s have contacts with smugglers in Jaisalmer.
Last year at Ramgarh canal area, Babbar Khalsa’s two terrorists were caught.
Official sources associated with security said that any kind of construction or movement near the field firing range of air force would prove harmful. The planes of air force keep firing on the targets in the range. Sometimes, these fighter planes may miss their targets and there could be possibility of loss to human beings and property. Meanwhile, residents of Chandhan area too are protesting over the fact that outsiders are purchasing land near the range. Villagers have given memorandum in this regard to the district collector.
