    UTI Mutual Fund re-working its strategies to attract best talent

    NEW DELHI: UTI Mutual Fund is re-working its strategies in an attempt to retain and attract the best talent. Some of these include positioning the company as an attractive career destination in business school campuses and sprucing up employee communication.

    “UTI Mutual Fund was not all that exciting some years ago. But now we want to make the company attractive enough and are positioning ourselves well in campuses. As part of our campus contact programme, we are receiving a good response,” says group president and HR head, Priya Ranjan.

    In May this year, UTI Mutual Fund launched a programme called ‘HR Transformation’, under which it laid down four initiatives under the acronym CARD -- communication and culture, attraction, retention and development.

    “To keep pace with changes in industry, regulations and customer preferences, we have to transform. This involves questioning the status quo and looking at a futuristic dimension on all fronts,” adds Ranjan.

    Under the communication and culture initiative, the company has introduced focus group discussions, skip level meetings and increased use of the intranet. The company has conducted 12 group sessions wherein about 15 individuals are brought together to give feedback on human resources. “Skip level meetings with the CEO are aimed at breaking the hierarchy. Here we skip one level of hierarchy and a senior can reach out to subordinates two levels below him,” says Ranjan.

    With performance being the sole criteria for promotion, an employee can now have complete visibility on potential career growth paths, he adds. The company is also creating a customised learning plan for all its employees, besides screening its senior employees for leadership programmes in India and foreign learning institutes.
