Dilkusha schools took out the girls and boys division of the Tailevu Zone competition at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

With a total number of 11 schools participating Tailevu will be aiming for 20 gold medals in this year’s national meet.

Tailevu South Athletics president Isoa Musuqio said compared to last year where only three schools participated, he can see an increased amount of raw talent this year.

“Last year, we only had Dilkusha Boys and Girls schools plus Navuakece District School but we scooped a total of five gold medals,” Musuqio said.

The new schools that have joined are Baimavalu Primary School, Davuilevu Methodist School, Vunimono Sanatan Primary School, Kuku District School and Nakelo Sharks which include Nakelo District School, Nasamila District School, Ratu Veikoso Primary School and Daku District School.

“We normally concentrate on rugby or netball but we have noticed that the kids are talented in athletics as well and if we can get five gold from just three schools, imagine what we can achieve with 11.

“We have been coaching our students. Also we’ve let them know that they have to make the national meet to expose their hidden talents and develop their skills as well.”
