KOLKATA: The city sessions court has directed the SSKM hospital superintendent to send the medical reports of arrested terror accused Abdul Hakim, now under treatment in the hospital, to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the Burdwan blast case by October 31.
First fast track court judge Madhumita Roy on Wednesday passed the directive following a complaint from the NIA against SSKM hospital.
NIA sought the court’s intervention saying it is yet to get a copy of Hakim’s medical report from the hospital.
SSKM director Pradip Mitra rubbished the NIA charge. “Fact is the NIA didn’t ever ask for the report. Abdul Hakim’s medical report is being prepared every day after conducting tests. There is no problem handing over the reports on a daily basis. But the NIA didn’t approach the hospital. Investigators come to interrogate the accused and left without even informing us,” said Mitra.
All the arrested, namely Amina, Razia and Hasem Molla, who allegedly carried the accused in the orange Nano later parked near the Simulia madrasa in Burdwan, were produced in court. NIA lawyer Shyamal Ghosh prayed for police custody of Hasem Molla for 10 days. For the two female undertrials, the NIA lawyer pleaded for judicial custody for 15 days. The court remanded Molla in police custody till October 31, while it directed that the two women be put behind bars till November 5.
The NIA lawyer submitted to the court that the materials seized from the blast spot and elsewhere in the state in connection with the Khagragarh explosion have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad.
The city court turned into a fortress since morning with a huge deployment of police forces. People who entered the sessions court building were not even allowed to carry their cellphones.
While the NIA lawyer pleaded against the accused, there was none to defend him though Jamiat-e-Ulama leader Siddiqullah Chowdhury announced in Burdwan on Tuesday that the outfit will field lawyers to defend the accused.
