Teen who escaped violence in Honduras killed in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO -- A teen who fled to San Antonio to escape violence in Honduras may have been the victim of murder on the city's south side, reports CBS affiliate KENS.

The body of Able Mata Rodas was discovered Sunday night on a street near his San Antonio home. He suffered severe trauma to the head and torso, according to investigators.

Police said they are investigating the death as a homicide and have not yet determined the exact cause of death. Investigators are not sure if Rodas was beaten to death or struck in a hit-and-run.

Rodas' family said the teen was from Honduras and moved to America two years ago to escape violence in his native country.

They pleaded Monday night for anyone who might have information to come forward.

"If anybody knows just a tiny little detail it will help bring us peace," said Bianca Medina, Rodas' sister-in-law. "Especially to his mother. She's in Honduras and she's taking it very bad."

Rodas' family said they cannot believe there were no eyewitnesses to the incident.
