Gujarat govt to rebuild 83 old godowns

According to Shri Chhatrasinh Mori, Minister for Civil supply, the Gujarat government will build 83 new godowns for storage of grain. Speaking to media persons in Vadodara he said that his department’s 83 godowns are in so poor condition that repairing is just not possible and they need to be rebuilt for better storage of grain. He said the reconstruction task will be done at a cost of Rs. 125 crore. He said some of the godowns are over 30 years old. He said some of the godown witnesses regular water logging during monsoon. The government will now ask architect to offer design in which plinth level will be higher. He said the water logging issue is caused by higher level of connecting roads. He said there are total 510 godowns in Gujarat under Civil Supply Corporation. Of them 487 are owned by government while 23 are on rent. Their total storage capacity is 284250 mt. He said the state government receives grain from Food Corporation of India(FCI) and store it in godowns. He said, the government will give extra one kg sugar and cooking oil to ration card owners on the occasion of Diwali.
