SURAT: You may land in trouble for igniting firecrackers after 10 pm at public places and main thoroughfares.
The city police commissioner has issued a notification advising people to stay away from lighting firecrackers after 10 pm to prevent fire incidents and other damages to the residential, commercial and public properties.
The notification further states that the elderly people, toddlers, pet animals and other weak-hearted individuals may not stand the loud noise of the firecrackers and that they might get health complications.

The notification also bans bursting crackers in the 100 meters radius at the hospitals and court building.
Firecracker dealers and wholesalers in the city claim that crackers worth over Rs 150 crore will be sold from October 23 to October 26.
Shailesh Jadav, a resident of Parle Point said, "I appreciate this notification. Every year, large number of people gather on the Gaurav Path during the New Year and light fire crackers on the road. Many youngsters indulge in the crossfire of rockets and the incidents of fire have been reported in the past."
Madhu Rai, living in Vesu said, "Diwali doesn't mean that you have to harm others. People here indulge in harming each other by throwing live bombs and other firecrackers. Police must ensure that the notification is strictly implemented."
