Govt must disclose retails of relief received: Vakil

RAFIABAD, Oct 21: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Abdul Ghani Vakil today said that Government must make public the details of the funds and other material received by it from various quarters for rehabilitation and revival of the flood affected families.
Addressing series of public meetings at Bakhipora, Batapora, Rawoocha and Hamammarkoot in Rafiabad today, Vakil said that the chaos and confusion is now the order of the day in Kashmir valley as the flood affected people are being forced to take to streets as their rehabilitation is still going on at a slow pace. He urged the Government to arrange shelter for homeless families before Darbar move.
Mr Vakil further said that despite receiving handsome amount from various quarters for the rehabilitation work the desired results are not visible on ground. He said to clear the doubts of every stake holder, Government must publish full details of the funds received for the purpose and utilized so far viz-a-viz criteria and parameters adopted in this behalf.
The Congress leader impressed upon the State and the Central Governments to speed up the rehabilitation of the flood affected people and complete it in a time bound manner.
Criticising the Government for failing to provide ration to deserving families the former minister said that ration distribution is beyond ordinary prudence because large number of deserving families are without ration cards since years. He said the Government must revisit its ration distribution policy and provide ration on the basis of registered ‘Chulahs’.
Mr Vakil also said that the Assembly elections be held on time in the State because democratically elected Government is in the interest of common man and any inordinate delay will directly affect the prosperity of the State. He said that bureaucratic system can in no way of any help to the people because they can not easily assess the commoners and their issues, especially in rural areas.
Prominent among others who addressed the gathering included, Ghulam Nabi Shah, Haji Mohd Afzal Khan, Javed Masoodi, Husamudin Gilani, Dr Brij Nath Nehru and Abdul Rashid Lone.
