It's time for a green Diwali

This year, many schools decided to organise Diwali mela by inviting various NGO's to showcase their eco-friendly products to the children and to spread the message of celebrating green Diwali.

Kohinoor Blossom and Kohinoor International school, invited several NGO's to present their work. The children were thrilled to see so many eco-friendly toys created by these NGOs.

Podar Jumbo Kids too organised the mela. No food items was used during the mela because they wanted to teach kids not to waste food. Kandil Kaleidoscope is to learn the magic of converting waste paper into fabulous colourful kandils. Then there were Super Swachh games to teach children why cleanliness is important.

Karishma Rohera, in-charge, Kohinoor Blossom, said, "We showed a puppet show to explain them how animals are scared of loud noise."

Swati Popat Vats, president, Podar Education Network, "In our culture, festivals are traditionally celebrated to instil a sense of family, togetherness, culture and brotherhood. But in today's world it has become important that festivals should also focus on celebration of peace and love for the environment."

Seema Bhuch, Gundecha Education Academy, said, "Our teachers had discussion with the students on air and noise pollution during Diwali and how we should celebrate it without fire crackers. The awareness is created about saving electricity."
