CHANDIGARH: Panjab University's Centre for Police Administration on Tuesday organized a special ceremony to mark Police Commemoration Day. The event 'Shaheedon Ko Naman' saw a contingent from Chandigarh Police, led by DSP (crime) Jagbir Singh, visit the Student Centre of PU.
Singh joined students, faculty and the contingent in paying homage to brave police martyrs by laying the wreath.

Coordinator of the centre Anil Monga, welcoming the contingent and other guests, said that the event was observed each year to pay homage to all police personnel who had sacrificed their lives while performing their duties. "The idea is to create awareness and sensitize students towards the sacrifices being made by the police force to maintain peace and order in society," he said.
Singh, on the other hand, traced the history of Police Commemoration Day. "On October 21, 1959, a CRPF patrol party was ambushed by the Chinese Army in Hot Springs, Ladakh where 10 brave-hearts were martyred. Since then this day is commemorated to pay homage to police martyrs," he said.
The event was followed by a blood donation camp organized at the centre, where university officials and PU fellows visited to motivate the donors. A total of 42 units were collected by the team from PGMIER.
