Cops say duo nabbed in heroin cartel experts in packing drugs
CHENNAI: Sri Lankan nationals M R Jawzeek, and his son M S Mohammad Razik, arrested along with another man on Friday from a house in Poonamallee where 17kg of heroin worth 50 crore was seized, are experts in concealing drugs inside parcels of sea food, investigators have said.
The third accused, 24-year-old Tenkasi native Mayilerum Perumal who has links to Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan, always contacted the father and son to assist him in 'packing' whenever he received huge quantities of drugs to be smuggled across the country, police said.

A police officer said Perumal would receive information about the duo's arrival in the city and pick them up from a selected spot. He claimed the duo had come to the city for the first time but this is being verified.
Jawzeek and Razik could skillfully conceal narcotics in sea food parcels to help avoid detection by sniffer dogs, investigators said adding that the gang could have been operating the racket for more than a year. Perumal had been staying at the Narasimha Nagar house near Poonamallee for the past six months and may have stayed at some other location in the city.
A huge consignment of heroin, about 36kg worth 100 crore, seized in Delhi in July put the Delhi police on to the racket operating out of Chennai. A joint team of the Delhi and Chennai police stormed the Narasimha Nagar house on Friday night, seized the narcotic and arrested Perumal, Jawzeek and Razik. Police learned that the sized heroin came from Afghanistan via Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan.
Investigators are questioning the three men to ascertain if they have any links to terror outfits or Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence and if the money from their operations was used to fund terrorist activities.
