653 police including four from A.P. died this year: DGP

As many as 653 policemen laid down their lives in fighting their enemies in India this year. Three policemen and a home guard were killed in Andhra Pradesh, said Director General of Police (DGP) J.V. Ramudu.

E. Sudhakar and K. Anil Kumar, who were in Grey Hounds, and were in operational duties at Konapur Gate Tanda in Mahaboobnagar district were killed as lightening struck in May this year. In another incident, one constable M. Jawaharlal Naik and V. Devendra Kumar attached to Palamaner police station in Chittoor district were murdered by dacoits.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa, Ministers, Parliament Members, MLAs and senior police officers will participate in the Police Commemoration Day programme.

Mr. Naidu will pay homage to the police martyrs at the memorial at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in the city on Tuesday, said Mr. Ramudu at a press conference held here on Monday.

Explaining the welfare measures being extended by the government for bereaved families, the state police chief said government is paying Rs.25 lakh ex-gratia up to the rank of Sub-Inspector and Rs.30 lakh to the families of the deceased in the rank of Inspector and above officers.

Compassionate appointment, house site, last drawn pay salary of the deceased, 75 per cent concession in second class in trains, 2 per cent seats in engineering and 0.25 per cent seats in MBBS or BDS courses are being reserved for children of the deceased.

Government is implementing Bhadratha, Arogya Bhadratha , Central Police Canteens and extending welfare measures for home guards, the DGP added.

Additional DGs Gowtam Sawang, R.P. Thakur, V.S. Kaumudi, A.B. Venkateswara Rao, Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao and others officers were present.
