WME partner and talent agent Richard Weitz had plenty to smile about as he was honored by the Barlow Foundation with an award named after his late colleague and friend Monday night at the Wilshire Country Club.

Weitz received the Bernie Brillstein Legacy award at a dinner following the fourth annual Bernie Brillstein Golf Classic at the Wilshire Country Club surrounded by friends and family, including his parents who flew in from Philadelphia, and members of his WME team. Weitz was also joined by clients LL Cool J, Katharine McPhee and Sean Hayes.

His longtime client Rob Lowe presented him with the award but not before taking a couple jabs at himself and his agent. Lowe had recently hurt his knee while surfing and joked that he just had gotten plastic surgery on that knee.

“This knee is 20 years younger looking now,” he said.

Lowe had also been repped by Brillstein before his passing in 2008 and shared some stories about the bond he shared with both Brillstein and Weitz, including an anecdote about interrupting Weitz while he was trick-or-treating with “Entourage” creator Doug Ellin during renegotiations for his “Brothers & Sisters” role.

Upon receiving his award, Weitz said he loved Lowe’s new DirecTV commercials and shared stories of how he first met Brillstein and how this foundation meant so much to him after the care they gave to Brillstein prior to his passing. The Barlow Foundation supports the Barlow Respiratory Hospital and Research Foundation, which treats patients with advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The golf tournament and silent auction raised nearly $300,000.

Weitz ended the evening by thanking several people including his two children, Aidan and Demi, and offered some fatherly advice.

“Work hard and be charitable and hopefully one day you will be receiving an award from the Rob Lowe of your generation,” he said with a smile. “They’re out there on YouTube or Vine right now, but they are out there.”
