Viacom‘s Viacom International Media Networks unit said Tuesday that Comedy Central International has ordered its first original multicamera sitcom.
It said series production has commenced on Brotherhood (a project formerly called Mummy’s Boys) from ITV-owned U.K. production firm Big Talk Productions. The eight-episode, 30-minute series is being shot on location and in front of a studio audience, starting this month.

Last year, Comedy Central International announced a plan to order multicamera sitcoms for a global audience. “Brotherhood is the first to come through our development pipeline, and I am thrilled it’s going into series production,” said Lourdes Diaz, vp and head of global production & development at CCI.
Brotherhood features a U.K. cast, including Johnny Flynn (Scrotal Recall), Ellie Taylor (Snog, Marry, Avoid), Gemma Chan (Fresh Meat, Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Ben Ashenden (Siblings) and Sarah Hadland (Miranda). The show is written by newcomers Patrick Carr and Paul McKenna.
Said Diaz: “Paul and Patrick have written a fantastic series that will resonate with our core 16-34 audience, and the cast is absolutely spot-on.”

Said Kenton Allen, co-CEO of Big Talk: “We’re thrilled to be continuing our successful relationship with Comedy Central and delighted they are backing Paul and Patrick’s whip-smart studio sitcom. We can’t wait to welcome audiences to the Brotherhood.”
The show follows two 20-somethings who become surrogate parents to their little brother after their mother dies. “Dan is a sarcastic joker, anxious and a little uptight. Toby is a naive sweetheart with an eye for the ladies. And Jamie hasn’t said a word in six months,” according to a show description. “Thrust into a new world of responsibility, Dan and Toby are in over their heads.”
