Versatile actor and educationist Mohan Babu received the Dr. Bezawada Gopala Reddy Award from the hands of Tamil Nadu Governor Konijeti Rosaiah at a function organised here on Tuesday evening.

Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy, industrialist K.I. Varaprasada Reddy, former MP Magunta Parvathamma, Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Recalling the services of Dr. Gopala Reddy as a political stalwart in those days, Mr. Rosaiah said that at a very young age Dr. Reddy had the opportunity to become a minister in the united Madras state and he was not even married at that time. Dr. Gopala Reddy never looked back in his political career and went on to serve as the Governor for the country’s largest state of Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Rosaiah complimented Mohan Babu for receiving the award, saying that he was rendering impressive services to the field of education in addition to having a brilliant career in cinema field. “Many of Mohan Babu’s films were hits. Like everybody else, I also saw and enjoyed his films. His work in his educational institutions was commendable because of the discipline he was nurturing in those students,” Mr. Rosaiah said.

Mr. Rosaiah also praised Mohan Babu for extending quality education to the students from poor families by setting aside some time from his busy career as a film personality.

In his thanksgiving message, Mohan Babu said, “Some speakers referred to my successful film career. But I know what difficulties and problems I overcame in the process. Some said I would never pick up good diction as I came from Rayalaseema but I went ahead with self-belief and proved that wrong,” he said.

Stating that he began his career from very humble beginnings, Mohan Babu said that there was a hero personality in everybody and the only point was that one should move ahead with self-confidence and conviction.
