Rich tributes were paid to slain policemen on the occasion of the Police Commemoration Day here on Tuesday. District Collector Ch. Vijayamohan, District Judge Venkata Jyothirmayi, DIG T. Muralikrishna, SP A. Ravikrishna, Additional SP Babu Rao and others were present.

After placing the wreaths at the memorial, the Collector said the peace in society was ensured by police. He said the police were fighting a different war as they were supposed to use minimum force to achieve the target as the opposite group was none other than the citizens of the country.

He said the man behind the gun was more important than the firearm as greatest wars were won by smallest bands. Paying glowing tributes to policemen who died in the line of duty, the Collector promised all help to the bereaved families due to them from the government.

Additional SP S. Babu Rao read out the names of 642 policemen who were slain across the country and paid tributes. The contingents took out a rally in the city. The guests distributed prizes to the winners of various contests. Contests were held even for police officers and personnel. Officer on Special Duty Manohar Rao, AR Additional SP Radhakrishna and others were present.
