MUMBAI: State Congress president Manikrao Thakre on Tuesday described as “baseless” statements by NCP president Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar that a senior Congress leader had called them up for supporting a Shiv Sena-led government.
Thakre said this after a party core committee meeting, also attended by former chief ministers Prithrivaj Chavan, Narayan Rane, Ashok Chavan and Sushilkumar Shinde.

The NCP offered unconditional support to a proposed BJP government after the results were announced.
Thakre said the committee reviewed the political situation after the party’s debacle. “We decided to sit in the opposition. Under no circumstances will we join the government or support it from outside,’’ Thakre, who has already resigned, said.
