There were numerous footwear prints in blood found in the Co Kerry house where the bodies of Jolanta Lubiene and her daughter Enrika were discovered in June 2013, a trial has been told.

A large part of the semi-detached two-storey house in Killorglin was blood-stained - the walls, bannisters, doors, floors, radiators and curtains.

There were also paw prints in blood from a dog, and a handprint in blood, the court was told.

Aurimas Andruska, 27, originally from Lithuania and with an address at Ardmoniel Heights, Killorglin, has pleaded not guilty to the two murders at Langford Downs, Killorglin on a date unknown between 15 June and 17 June 2013.

Detective Garda Ronan Lawlor gave evidence on the ninth day of the trial of a piece of a blade found underneath the head of Ms Lubiene, while upstairs the tip of a blade was discovered near the body of the dead child.

Det Garda Lawlor told Isobel Kennedy, prosecuting, that he examined in particular 12 footwear marks in blood.

The length of the foot was 310mm or over 12-inches and a cross pattern was "unique" to all the marks in blood.

There was no other type of footwear in blood and these bloodied foot marks were found on the landing, in the kitchen and the master bedroom.

The detective agreed with Brendan Grehan, SC for the defence, cross-examining, that despite intensive searches of the house, a handle and blade for the pieces were not found at the house.

The detective agreed he had to be selective and could not swab or sample every square inch.

He said he chose 12 good quality footprints from among "the numerous" found throughout the house.

The trial also heard how Det Lawlor entered through the back door of the utility room, which had not been forced.

The body of Ms Lubiene, 27, was found in the utility room door and her eight-year-old's body was discovered upstairs.

Footwear marks in blood were going in different directions and blood was on the floor, walls and numerous areas of the kitchen.

There were two slippers in different locations; one near the oven and the other near the kitchen table.

There were paw prints in blood throughout the house because of the dog.

Going up the stairs, there were numerous footprints in blood, and a handprint in blood on the left wall going up the stairs.

"It was made in blood," Det Lawlor described the hand print.

The trial continues.
