Fana bids for another world title

FORMER world champion Mzonke Fana bids to win another world title, albeit a marginal one, when he takes on SA champion Jasper Seroka on Saturday afternoon.

The fight will take place at the Cathcart Hall in the Eastern Cape.

Fana, who twice held the IBF junior lightweight crown, takes on former foe Seroka for the vacant WBF belt.

The pair last fought in 2009, when Fana stopped Seroka in the sixth round, but he has shown signs of ageing in recent months.

Fana and Seroka top the bill sponsored by the Eastern Cape government and promoted by Siphatho Handi.

On the main undercard Simphiwe Khonkco and Nhlanhla Ngamntwini will fight for the vacant IBO Intercontinental mini flyweight title.

Tshifhiwa Munyai will defend his WBA Pan African junior featherweight belt against Siviwe Hasheni, the SA junior featherweight champion.

Takalani Ndlovu and Siviwe Gugushe will contest the vacant WBA Pan African featherweight belt.

Mfusi Maxhayi and Unathi Gqokoma complete the bill with the fight for Maxhayi's WBF Intercontinental bantamweight belt.

Meanwhile, two more South Africans will be in action in Monte Carlo on Saturday night.

WBA and IBO strawweight champion Hekkie Budler will defend against Xion Zhao Zhong, while stable-mate Ryno Liebenberg faces Colombian Eleider Alvarez in a light heavyweight bout.
