In yet another attack on policemen in the Capital, two Delhi Police constables were assaulted by some persons who were drinking and gambling at a public park in Uttam Nagar in West Delhi on Sunday night.
Both the policemen were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where they were discharged after treatment. They had suffered injuries on their heads and faces.
Five suspects, including a juvenile, were held soon after the attack. “A call was made for more reinforcement after which some senior officers arrived at the spot and apprehended the assaulters, who were drunk,” a senior police said.
Around 7-30 p.m. on Sunday, constables Mandeep (29) and Satendra (39) had received information about some persons drinking and gambling at a park in Nawada. They reached there and began questioning those people, who in turn began pelting stones at the policemen in a bid to get away. Some even hit the cops on their heads with sticks.
One of the constables was able to inform the local police station. A police officer said some of the accused were so drunk that they were not even able to escape despite having the policemen on the back foot for a brief while.
The police are trying to establish if more persons were involved in the attack.
There have been three such incidents in the past ten days, in which policemen, including an Assistant Commissioner of Police, were attacked.
