Multiplex may not screen Vijay starrer 'Kaththi' after vandalism attack

Satyam theatres was targeted by vandals who broke glass windows and threw crude kerosene bombs at the lobby

Mumbai: Touted to be the biggest Diwali release this year, Tamil star Vijay's new film, 'Kaththi' will not get released on the said date.

A popular multiplex in Chennai, Satyam theatres was targeted by vandals who broke glass windows and threw crude kerosene bombs at the lobby and ticket-booking booth. Though the theatres were crowded with people who were leaving after the night show, nobody got injured.

Reportedly, a senior member of Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association mentioned that they cannot go ahead with the screening with this situation and a final decision will be taken soon. No police or cinema officials are commenting whether the attacks have been captured by security cameras. No arrests have been made so far.

The film's producers were accused of links to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse who is responsible for deaths of thousands Sri Lankan Tamils by defence forces during the final phase of the civil war. Due to people protesting, the producers removed their logo as a part of compromise agreement.

This is not the first time a film is in trouble, in February last year, Kamal Haasan starrer, 'Viswaroopam' was banned by the state government after protest by Muslim groups. Even Vijay's film 'Thalaivaa' was held back after bomb threats.

Multiplex are considering not to screen the film after the attacks.
