Thieves strike again, laptops stolen from car
BHUBANESWAR: In a rerun of October 18 diamond heist at Kharavela Nagar, unidentified miscreants stole two laptops and a digital camera after smashing glass window of a car at Saheed Nagar here on Monday.
The incident occurred 50 metre from police barriers, put up near Rupali Square in the wake of Saturday's theft of diamonds worth over Rs 10 lakh.
City-based businessman Soumya Ranjan Pattnaik said the laptops and camera were in the rear seat of his car.
"He had gone to a courier office for some work. On his return, he found his glass window broken and the articles missing. We are verifying the allegation," said a police officer.
Pattnaik said he immediately informed police, manning the barriers. "They expressed ignorance about the theft and asked me to lodge a complaint at Saheed Nagar police station," he told mediapersons.
The back-to-back incidents, which occurred on Janpath, have raised questions on police arrangements for Diwali on October 23. "The criminals decamped with the articles under the nose of police near Rupali Square. On Saturday, the criminals struck close to Kharavela Nagar police station. It is a big embarrassment for police," said Bijay Mishra, a citizen. Police asked citizens to be careful while travelling with cash and expensive items. "Malls and jewellery stores are jam-packed these days. We have intensified patrolling during busy hours," said a senior police officer.
