CUTTACK: Just like Durga Puja, even
Kali puja in Cuttack has turned into a glittering affair. The Bakharabad puja committee has prepared a gold crown using 650 grams of gold worth Rs 27 lakh for Goddess Kali.
The puja committee, which worships Kali in its
Chhinmastika avatar, attracts thousands of devotees every year because of its distinct puja celebrations. To ensure more footfall to the pandal this year, organizers have made grand arrangements.
"Last year, we had prepared a silver tableaux for the deity for Rs 1 crore. But this year, we wanted to make the celebrations even more splendid by adding a gold crown to our deity," said Jaydeep Pal, member of the puja committee.
Artisan Pradip Prusty has worked hard for the last three months to prepare the crown. "I have used filigree work in some portions by using gold wires to make the crown attractive. Use of gold peacocks and intricate floral design in the crown has made it a magnificent piece," said Prusty.
Bakhrabad is the only puja committee in the city to worship Chhinmastika (beheaded) Kali. It is believed that Goddess Kali had chopped off her own head in anger. The idol here holds her severed head in one hand while three streams of blood roll out from her neck.
