Mariah Carey Proves She Can Still Sing in Wacky YouTube Video

If her musical career fizzles, Mariah Carey shouldn't have any trouble transitioning to comedy. The surprisingly hilarious singer has taken to YouTube to respond to critics who blasted her for failing to hit her signature notes during an The Elusive Chanteuse tour stop in Tokyo.

In the 31-second clip posted to her channel on Sunday, Carey is seen cleaning her living quarters in Shanghai. She entertains herself by singing one of her high-octave runs, and she sounds great.

The video, clearly staged, starts recording just as Carey enters the room, walks past the lens, and exits carrying a vase, all while proving that she still possesses her songbird styling. She even hums the lyric, "It's time to work."

Wearing a robe, sunglasses and her hair in a bun, Carey makes another appearance, this time to pick up what appears to be a male's T-shirt. Nick Cannon's estranged missus grabs the garment and dangles it in front of the camera, asking, "Now, who is leaving these dirty tank tops around?" as the video fades.

Earlier this month, video surfaced of Carey's performance in Tokyo. She struggled when singing her hits "We Belong Together," "Hero," and "Always Be My Baby."

Carey hasn't had trouble poking fun at herself in the past. During a live performance on Today last May, she took her lyrical flub on "Always Be My Baby" in stride, singing, "Messing up the words to my own song/And I don't care."

Her appearance on HSN in July 2011 to promote her jewelry, fragrance, and purses turned into a spectacle. She spent much of the two hours rambling about the pains of pregnancy and directing the camera crew on when to film her. She also instructed a model on the appropriate way to carry one of the purses.

Her wildest on camera moment remains her unannounced visit on MTV's TRL in 2001. She arrived wearing an oversized T-shirt and pushing an ice cream cart. Host Carson Daly appeared genuinely surprised, especially when she removed the shirt to reveal another outfit underneath, a form-fitting tank top and short shorts. She referred to the visit as a "therapy session," and Daly simply seemed confused.
