Margao: The
Colva police on Monday recovered the
chopper and the
burkha (veil) used by the
Dias couple who has been arrested in connection with the theft at the
St John the Baptist Church,
Benaulim, on May 13.
While the chopper was recovered from their Assolna residence, the burkha was found in their apartment at Navelim. The cops have already recovered two laptops and three mobile phones from the accused.
While Leena Dias is in judicial custody, her husband Carlos, who was arrested on Saturday, has been remanded to police custody.
It may be recalled that on May 13, a couple with their faces covered had entered the church office brandishing a chopper and asked the two female staff members to part with the money kept in the office. After tying up the hands of the two women and locking them inside the washroom, the couple had made off with cash, two laptops and three cellphones.
Leena, who was arrested by the Margao police while trying to tamper with the number plate of a car parked near the ESI hospital in Margao, was identified as the female accused in the Benaulim theft case and was taken into custody by the Colva police last week.
