Panaji: Two persons, both natives of Hubli, were arrested by the
crime branch of
Goa police for pushing four women into
prostitution in Panaji.
The four women were rescued and sent to the protective home at Merces. Police sources said that after the crime branch sleuths had received information of the sex racket being run by the two persons, a close watch was maintained on their activities.
Police said they sent decoys and a ‘deal was struck to arrange for four girls’, who were brought in a car near the parking lot of the Kala Academy complex at Campal, Panaji. A police team led by
PI Nerlon Albuquerque swooped down on them and the pimps were nabbed.
Police sources said the accused, Ranjit Shetty and Prashant Raibhangi, were residents of Nerul, Bardez.
The girls, who are in the early 20s, are from Mumbai and Delhi, and two of them had arrived on Monday afternoon.
