CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna has demanded that the government extend time for farmers till this month-end to furnish details of their bank accounts for the implementation of loan waiver scheme.
A sizeable number of farmers stood the risk of being deprived of the benefit due to the delay in compiling of data by the banks, he stated in a press release. Citing an example, he said that Kambadur branch of State Bank of India had to provide details of credit availed by over 3,000 farmers. At the State-level, the number of such farmers would be in lakhs.
Mr. Ramakrishna appealed to Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao to ensure that water level in Srisailam dam was maintained at 854 feet by suspending power generation for meeting the requirement of farmers. The Minister assured a delegation of the CPI comprising Mr. Ramakrishna, A.P Rythu Sangham General Secretary R. Venkaiah and CPI District Secretary A. Vanaja that necessary steps would be taken for making power available to farmers.
